What is Ragging?

Ragging is any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness to any student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which cause or likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the psyche of a fresher or a junior student.

Anti-Ragging Measures

Ragging is totally prohibited in Shree Saraswati College of Nursing, Tondavali. Anyone found guilty is liable to be punished in accordance with UGC Regulations 2009 and applicable law. As per UGC Regulations on curbing the menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, ragging constitutes one or more of the following acts:

  • Any conduct by words or acts that teases, treats or handles a fresher/any student with rudeness.
  • Rowdy or indisciplined activities causing annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm, or fear.
  • Compelling a student to do acts causing shame, torment or embarrassment affecting physique or psyche.
  • Preventing, disrupting or disturbing regular academic activity of any student or fresher.
  • Exploiting services of a fresher/any student for completing academic tasks of individuals or groups.
  • Financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden on a fresher/any student.
  • Physical abuse including sexual abuse, assaults, stripping, forcing obscene acts, causing bodily harm or danger.
  • Abuse by spoken words, email, post, public insults; deriving perverted pleasure or sadistic thrill, passively participating.
  • Any act affecting mental health and self-confidence of a fresher/any student, showing off power, authority or superiority.

If you face or witness ragging

  1. Ensure immediate safety; contact campus security or a trusted faculty member.
  2. Call the National Anti-Ragging Helpline or file a complaint online.
  3. Record details (date, time, place, persons involved) and keep any evidence.

The helpline is monitored for UGC by the Ministry of Education’s agency.
